135 singers from across the country, plus 4 from the Republic of Korea, spent the Labor Day Weekend at Asilomar preparing and performing Dirait-on, O Magnum Mysterium and Lux Aeterna.

Morten Lauridsen is the preeminent American choral composer today. His best-known compositions Lux Aeterna, O Magnum Mysterium, and “Dirait-on” (from Les Chansons des Roses) have become all-time best-sellers. During the 1990’s his music rapidly gained international popularity, such that, by the end of the century he was the most frequently performed American choral composer around the world. Dr. Lauridsen has been Professor of Composition at USC for more than thirty years.

 

Donald Neuen is Professor of Choral Conducting at UCLA, Director of the internationally-televised Crystal Cathedral Choir and Artistic Director of the Angeles Chorale. Prior to coming to Los Angeles he was on the faculty of the Eastman School of Music. He is known for his musical sensitivity and meticulous attention to phrasing and diction. He is one of the most renowned teachers of choral technique in the US today. Musicologist Julies Herford, teacher of Leonard Bernstein and Robert Shaw among many others, called Neuen ”the great conductor of his generation.”
